Dhaka, 10 September, Abnews: The death toll from a powerful quake that triggered landslides in northern Japan rose to 44.
The majority of the dead are from the small rural town of Atsuma, where a cluster of dwellings were wrecked when a hillside collapsed from the force of the 6.6-magnitude quake.
Around nine people are still unaccounted for in the town and around 400 sustained minor injuries, according to the local government of the northern Hokkaido island.
On Thursday, Japan's northern island of Hokkaido was been hit by a powerful earthquake, triggering landslides that engulfed houses.
The magnitude 6.7 quake struck 62km (39 miles) south-east of the regional capital Sapporo in the early hours of the morning.
