Dhaka, 1 August, Abnews: Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Wednesday said that the proposed Road Transport Act will be placed before the next cabinet meeting for approval and it is expected to be passed in the next session of parliament.
“After the passage of the law, we will be able to implement it,” the minister said at a press briefing at Setu Bhaban in the city.
The minister also sought cooperation of the labour unions in this regard
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina herself has taken initiatives to bring back discipline in the highways, Quader said, adding that she (PM) has issued directives order to bring back discipline in the highways.
Quader, also Awami League general secretary, hoped that discipline would restore on the highways after the passage of the law in the parliament.
He asked the students agitating over the road accident on Airport Road to call off their programmes and return to their classes.
On Sunday, Diya Khanam Mim and Abdul Karim Rajib, students of the college section of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin School and College, were killed as a ‘Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan’ bus ploughed through some students in front of Kurmitola General Hospital on Airport Road.
