Dhaka, 26 July, Abnews: Police on Thursday pressed charges against six people, including Faizul Hasan Foyez, in connection with the attack on renowned writer Dr Muhammad Zafar Iqbal on Shahajalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) campus.
Amulya Kumar Chowdhury, assistant police commissioner (prosecution) submitted the 353 page chargesheet with the court of Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate Haridas Pal around 11:45 am, said Shafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Jalalabad Police Station.
The other charge-sheeted accused are Faizul’s father Hafez Maulana Atiqur Rahman, mother Minara Begum, brother Enamul Hasan, maternal uncle Md Fazlur Rahman and friend Sohagh Miah.
Professor Zafar Iqbal was attending a program of the Electrical and Electronic department as the Chief Guest at the campus’ Muktamancha. He was attacked there. Iqbal was stabbed four times on the back of head, once on the left arm and once on the back.
Chief Surgeon of CMH Brigadier General Md Mahbubur Rahman was present on the occasion.
The suspect who was detained for stabbing and injuring Prof Muhammed Zafar Iqbal was identified as Faizur Rahman alias Faizul, a resident of an area adjacent to Shahjalal University of Science and Technology or SUST.
