Dhaka, 28 April, Abnews: The much-talked about mega Chattogram water-logging removal project of the Chattogram port city, began on Saturday morning.
The project work was formally inaugurated through cleaning of a drain in no. 2 gate area of Panchlaish Thana in the port city.
Abdus Salam, Chairman of Chattogram Development Authority (CDA), and officials of Bangladesh Army were present at that time.
Two contractors for the mega project styled 'canal re-excavation, extension, renovation and development to solve water logging in Chattogram city' involving Tk 5,616 crore have been appointed.
A total of 16 canals, among 36 canals will be re-excavated in the first phase. The 16 canals are as follows; Chaktai Khal, Birza Khal, Rajakhali, Mirza, Hijra, Mohesh, Mariam Bibi Khal, Khondakia, Kalabagicha, and Baromasi Khal.
CDA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Bangladesh Army to conduct the mega project on April 9.
