Dhaka, 5 Mar, Abnews: Prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday visited the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka to see Zafar Iqbal who was injured in a knife attack on the campus of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) in Sylhet, reports UNB.
She went to the CMH around 12:30pm and spent almost an hour there, PM’s press secretary Ihsanul Karim told newsmen.
He said the prime minister talked to physicians and asked about the present condition of Zafar Iqbal, a SUST teacher and renowned fiction writer. He is now undergoing treatment at the CMH.
Zafar Iqbal’s wife professor Yesmeen Huq and his daughter Yeashim Iqbal were also present.
The prime minister asked the authorities concerned to do whatever needed for the treatment of Professor Zafar Iqbal, the PM’s press secretary said.
On Saturday, Prof Iqbal, Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), came under a terror attack on the university campus in Sylhet.
He was initially treated at the MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital in Sylhet where he had been administered 27 stitches and given two bags of blood and was later flown to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka last night.
Students at Sylhet’s Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) apparently apprehended the assailant. He has been handed over to the police after being roughed up by the general public.
Professor Zafar Iqbal was attending a program of the Electrical and Electronic department as the Chief Guest at the campus’ Muktamancha. He was attacked there. Iqbal was stabbed four times on the back of head, once on the left arm and once on the back.
Chief Surgeon of CMH Brigadier General Md Mahbubur Rahman was present on the occasion.
The suspect who was detained for stabbing and injuring Prof Muhammed Zafar Iqbal was identified as Faizur Rahman alias Faizul, a resident of an area adjacent to Shahjalal University of Science and Technology or SUST.
