Dhaka, 14 Feb, Abnews: BNP said it will get the certified copy of the verdict that sentenced BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia to five years’ imprisonment in Wednesday afternoon.
Advocate Sanaullah Mia, counsel of the BNP chief, today said they will get the copy of the verdict of Zia Orphanage Trust graft case around 4pm.
He also said that if they get the copy of the verdict today, they would file an appeal on Thursday.
Earlier, BNP leaders and activists started observing a 6-hour hunger strike in the city on Wednesday morning demanding the release of its chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail. The strike started in front of Jatiya Press Club on 10am and will continue until 4pm.
Several Hundred leaders and activists, including party standing committee members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Moudud Ahmed, Nazrul Islam Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, joined the program.
BNP’s different district and city units are also scheduled to observe similar programmes at their convenient time and places.
Khaleda Zia landed in jail on February 8 after a special court sentenced her to five years’ rigorous imprisonment in a graft case.
The special court also sentenced Khaleda’s eldest son and BNP Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman, and four others to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Tk 2.10 crore each.
