Dhaka, 7 Feb, Abnews: Bangladesh will sue a Philippines bank in the US court for damages over the 2016 heist of its central bank’s reserve.
Bangladesh Bank Deputy Governor Abu Hena Mohd Razee Hassan said this while addressing a media briefing in Dhaka on Wednesday.
The Federal Reserve Bank of New York and SWIFT will also be parties to lawsuit to be filed with a court in New York, he informed.
On February last year, unidentified hackers stole $81 million from Bangladesh Bank’s account at the New York Fed, using fraudulent orders on the SWIFT payments system.
The money was sent to accounts at Manila-based Rizal Commercial Banking Corp which later disappeared into the casino industry in the Philippines.
