Dhaka, 7 Feb, Abnews: Abdul Hamid has been re-elected as the country's president for a second consecutive term.
"As no one else was running for the presidential position, the Election Commission (EC) is announcing M Abdul Hamid as the country's next president," Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Nurul Huda told a press conference at his office on Wednesday.
Earlier, Awami League submitted a nomination paper on behalf of, incumbent Md. Abdul Hamid on Monday noon.
On Friday, AL team, led by chief whip AS Feroz, collected the nomination paper from the returning officer's office of the election commission at Nirbachan Bhaban in the city.
Awami League on 31 January nominated Md. Abdul Hamid as its candidate to contest the presidential election.
A veteran politician, Abdul Hamid was born on 1 January, 1944 in Kamalpur of Mithamoin Upazila under Kishoregonj district. He was also elected president unanimously for his first tenure in April 2013.
