University-Industry collaboration seminar held at UGC
Dhaka, 1 Feb, Abnews: A seminar on ‘university-industry collaboration for skillful and innovative human resource development in IT sector’ was held at UGC auditorium today (01 February 2018). Professor Abdul Mannan, Chairman, UGC graced the function as the Chief Guest while Professor Dr. Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Member, UGC presided over it. Syed Almas Kabir, President, Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) was Special Guest on the occasion. Professor Dr. Jamilur Reza Choudhury, Vice-Chancellor, University of Asia Pacific, Professor Dr. Saiful Islam, Vice-Chancellor, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology and Professor Dr. Mohammed Zafar Iqbal, Computer Science and Engineering Department, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology were Guests of Honour at the meeting. Professor Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain, Member, UGC delivered the welcome address. 
Addressing the event, UGC Chairman said that the collaboration between university and industry is imperative to make the university graduates employable both in local and international job market. He observed that UGC is relentlessly working to ensure quality education at tertiary level for producing quality graduates. 
Professor Mannan, in his speech emphasized on equipping the country’s huge young generation with updated knowledge and skills for their entering into job market. 
Professor Yousuf Ali Mollah, in his presidential speech observed that university-industry collaboration is the prime need for the socio-economic development of the country. He laid emphasis on curriculum development in IT sector based on the demands and needs of this sector. 
While speaking at the meeting, Professor Jamilur Reza said that collaboration between university and industry need to be enhanced like other countries of the world. He thanked the UGC for arranging such a programme. 
Pointing at necessity of skill and knowledge, Professor Zafar Iqbal said that university and subjects don’t matter in getting job if the graduates from any university are quality graduates having expertise and other qualities. He appealed to the industry leaders to come up with specific demands for the graduates in getting job to the country’s universities.   
BASIS President urged the university authority to develop course-curriculum as per the demand of job market so that the graduates could easily enter into employment market after completion of their study.  
Professor Dr. Dil Afroza Begum, Member, UGC, Vice-Chancellors from different universities, Dr. Md. Khaled, Secretary, UGC, Heads of Computer Science and Engineering Department from different universities, representatives from a number of industries and officials from UGC, among others, were present on the occasion.
