Dhaka, 25 Dec, Abnews: Primary school assistant teachers have suspended their strike after three days.
A meeting was held with Primary and Mass Education Minister Mustafizur Rahman on Monday afternoon in this regard, confirmed Tapan Kumar Mandal, a member of Primary Teacher's Association.
"The minister told us he will consider our demands" he said.
At least 40 teachers fell sick during the hunger strike. Among them, 17 were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hosiptal (DMCH) and some others were taken to certain private hospitals for treatment.
Assistant teachers of primary schools undertook fast-unto-death demanding their salary scale to be raised just next to the headmasters' of school.
A combined platform of over 1,000 assistant teachers from several organizations, began the strike at Central Shaheed Minar on Saturday.
The leaders of the alliance urged the government to upgrade the salary scale of the assistant teachers to 11th grade from the 14th that would see the basic salary enhancement from Tk. 9,500 to Tk 12,500.
President of the organization Anisur Rahman said they would announce tough programme if their demands are not met within today.
