Dhaka, 07 Nov, Abnews: A view exchange meeting between University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC) and National Board of Revenue (NBR) to indtroduce diploma/ graduation/ post-graduation courses on VAT, Income Tax and Customs at public university and internship programme on these issues under NBR was held today (07.11.2017) at NBR Bhaban, Agargaon, Dhaka. UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan graced the function as the Chief Guest. Md. Najibur Rahman, Senior Secretary, Internal Resources Division and Chairman, NBR presided over it. Professor Dr. M. Shah Nowaz Ali, Member, UGC was present as Speical Guest.
Md. Abdur Razzaque, Member, Tax Administration and Human Resources Division, NBR delivered the welcome address. Dr. Abdur Rouf, First Secretary, NBR presented the key-note paper on the issue. Md. Rezaul Hasan, Member and Project Director (VAT), NBR, Dr. Md. Khaled, Secretary, UGC and Khandaker Hamidur Rahman, Director (Public University Management Division), UGC also spoke on the occasion.
UGC Chairman, in his speech said that introducing course on income tax management at university level is the demand of the time. New courses are being introduced at university level to face the challenges of globalization. He termed the move to introduce this course as positive and he assured the NBR authority of extending all kinds of necessary support for institutionalization of it.
He further said that payment of income tax is highly needed for the development of the country. Fear among the people to pay the income tax has been removed due to the pro-people policy taken by NBR. He appealed all taxable people to pay income tax on regular basis to become the development partner of the country.
Professor Shah Nowaz Ali said that socio-economic development of the country has been enhanced due to various initatives taken by the government. Consequently, the number of tax payers has increased in the country.
NBR Chairman, in his presidential speech said that they are relentlessly working to implement the tax-friendly policy in the country. He called upon all concerned for contributing to build prosperous Bangladesh from their respective positions.
