Narayanganj, 28 Sep, Abnews: Narayanganj court has indicted school teacher Shyamal Kanti Bhakta in a case filed by his fellow colleague on charge of bribery.
Aktaruzzaman Bhuiyan, Third Senior Judicial Magistrate of Narayanganj court ordered trial on Wednesday after framing the charges.
The judge set December 12 for the next hearing, Public Prosecutor Wazed Ali Khokon said.
Sakhawat Hossain, the lawyer for Bhakta, said the charges were "false and aimed to harass the teacher".
On 24 May, Shyamal was jailed after a Narayanganj court issued an arrest warrant against him on charges of bribery.
Bhakta was accused of taking Tk 135,000 by plaintiff Morsheda Begum, who was promised to include her employment under the government’s monthly payment order (MPO) scheme.
On 13 May last year, locals beat up Shyamal after he made defamatory comments against Islam.
At one stage, local lawmaker AKM Salim Osman made him do sit-ups holding his ears in the presence of local people triggering huge social outcry.
