Rajshahi, 12 August, Abnews: Bangladesh Chattra-league of Rajshahi University unit handed over 13 students to police after beating seriously from Shaheed Suhrawardy hall of the university on Wednesday, on suspicion that they were involved with the Islami Chhatra Shibir, the Jamaat-E-Islami-backed student organisation.
Eleven are admitted to Rajshaji Medical College Hospital (RMCH) for treatment while 8 persons are seriously wounded, sources said.
The arrested were identified as literary secretary of RU unit shibir Nabiul Islam, Sharul Alom Himel 4th year students of statistics dept, President of Engineering dept Sahed Rana, general secretary of Shaheed Samsujjoha hall Zakir Hossain, Ashiqul Hasan Nafiz 4th year of Anthropology dept, Ariful Islam masters of Farsi dept, Rakib Ahmed 2nd year of Law dept, Mahmudul Islam 2nd year of Botany dept, Shariful Islam 4th year of Statistics dept, Abdur Rakib 3rd year of Islamic Studies dept, WaliulIa, Abu Jafor, Golam Rabbani of Arabic dept.
Humayun Kabir told New Age that they conducted the drive after a cocktail blasted at the dormitory on Thursday night.
The three were produced before a Rajshahi court and the court ordered the police to send them to jail, he added.
RU unit BCL president Golam Kibria Said, 'we entered into the hall on the basis of secret information and detained those shibir men while handed over to police'.
Motihar police officer-in-charge Mahbubul Alom said, RU unit BCL handed over 13 students suspecting as shibir men and proper steps will be taken after the interrogation.
