Dhaka, 28 July, Abnews: A-four member Asian Development Bank (ADB) delegation led by Sungsup Ra, Director, Human and Social Development Division, South Asia Department, held a meeting with Professor Abdul Mannan, Chairman, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh at UGC today (27 July 2017).
Ryotaro Hayashi, Director, Zhiganga Li, Social Sector Economist, Human and Social Development Division, South Asia Department and Mr. Md. Zabed Ali Sorker, Senior IT Sector Specialist, ADB Staff Consultant (National), assisted Mr. Sungsup Ra during the courtesy call.
Mr. Sungsup Ra said that they have got several demands from the selected nine universities to initiate the project for the development of ICT sector of Bangladesh to produce IT skilled manpower.
He asked the UGC Chairman to rationalize the demands placed by the universities and to prepare action plan in this regard.
UGC Chairman informed the delegation that UGC emphasized the selected universities to implement the activities of the upcoming project. He further said that the successful implementation of the project will play a significant role in human resource development, employment generation, ICT capacity building of universities and curriculum development.
Hence, ADB has agreed to initiate the project involving 250 million US Dollars.
The project will be implemented in Dhaka University, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Jahangirnagar University, Jessore University of Science and Technology, Islamic University of Technology, East West University, Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology, BRAC University and Daffodil International University under the supervision of UGC.
Professor Dr. Dil Afroza Begum, Member, UGC, Professor Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain, Member, UGC, Mr. Abdur Rezzaque, Director, Planning and Development Division and Dr. Md. Fakhrul Islam, Joint-Secretary, UGC, among others, were present during the meeting.
