Dhaka, 18 Jan, Abnews: The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court rejected Kader Siddique’s appeal against the High Court order which had previously declared his nomination in the Tangail-4 constituency by-polls illegal.
The full bench of the Appellate Division gave the, informed Election Commission lawyer Yasin Khan.
Attorney General Mahbube Alam conducted the hearing on behalf of the state, senior lawyer AJ Mohammad Ali stood for Kader Siddique while Yasin Khan stood on behalf of the Election Commission.
After the resignation of Awami League MP of Tangail-4 Abdul Latif Siddique on September 1, 2015, the Election Commission fixed November 10, 2015 for holding the by-polls.
However a returning officer on October 13, 2015 cancelled the nomination paper of Kader Siddique on loan default charges.
Later Kader appealed with the Election Commission against the decision but was rejected on October 18, 2015.
Later on February 25, 2016, he filed a leave-to-appeal petition with the SC against the High Court.
On 15th March, 2016, the SC Appellate Division had allowed him to file the appeal petition.
However, his final legal battle ended with the Appellate Division’s verdict on Wednesday.
