Dhaka, 4 Dec, Abnews: The fire that had broken out at the capital’s Korail slum in the Gulshan-Banani lake area has been brought under control.
14 units of firefighters went to the spot around 2:50pm and managed to bring the flames under control after almost 2 hours of frantic efforts.
No casualties have been reported so far and the cause of the fire is still being determined.
Sources have informed that fire fighters and locals managed to bring the flames under control after over an hour of efforts around 4:20pm.
Previously in March this year, a fire in the slum gutted 50 shanties there. At least two people died that day.
At least 500 homes have either been burned entirely or damaged in the flames. Locals said the fire originated from a shop in the area.
Dhaka North Mayor Annisul Huq had visited the site and instructed the authorities to arrange food for the affected people.
This is the largest slum in Dhaka that stands over 150 acres of land and is home to at least a few lac people.
